Goji Berries

What is it?

Goji berries are the fruits of either Lycium barbarum or Lycium chinense, two closely related species of boxthorn native to Asia. It is also called wolfberry.

Main Benefits:

Anti-oxidant, protective, anti-aging.

More Information:

The fruit has also been an ingredient in Asian countries for more than 2,000 years as a traditional medicinal herb and food supplement. The fruit contains phenolics, vitamins, carotenoids and proteoglycans which showed antioxidative properties and some interesting pharmacological activities in the context of age related diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes. Several clinical studies in healthy subjects show that consumption of goji berry juice improves general wellbeing and immune functions. In topical application, Goji berry polysaccharides were shown to have a photoprotective potential against  the fragmentation of the collagen fibers and thus have potential to reduce UV-induced photoaging.
