Shea Butter

What is it?

Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa).

Main Benefits:

Soothing, softening, anti-inflammatory, photo-protective, good for dry skin.

More Information:

Shea butter is high in oleic and stearic acids, and has been used as a base for medical ointments and for the massage of painful joints.  Soft and moisturizing, shea butter is an excellent emollient for dry skin and gives lotions a slightly thicker consistency. As a heavier butter, it feels somewhat greasy but it is quick to melt into the skin. Shea butter’s benefits are well documented, including penetrating deep into the skin, improving the appearance of scars and dark marks, increasing skin’s elasticity and improving the overall texture and feel of skin.
