Blue Green Algae

What is it?

Blue green algae include multiple photosynthetic cyanobacteria (Aphanizomenon Flos-Aquae, Spirulina platensis etc) found in aquatic habitats.

Main Benefits:

Anti-aging, collagen-booster, brightening, anti-oxidant.

More Information:

It is believed that blue green algae are more than 3.5 billion years old.  These single-celled organisms, capable of photosynthesis, lie at the root of the development of all terrestrial plants and animals.  It was their ability of photosynthesis that made it possible to transform an unbreathable atmosphere into a viable environment for oxygen-breathing organisms. Blue green algae have a lot of bioactive molecules, such as carotenoids zeaxanthin, lutein, canthaxanthin, echinenone and β-carotene (precursor of retinol, vitamin A).  p-Coumaric acid from cyanobacteria inhibits enzyme tyrosinase leading to  reduced hyper-pigmentation and skin-lightening effect. The algae is also a source of  the acetylated and amidated hexapeptide (AAH) that is protective against UVB-induced skin photoaging.
