Pomegranate

What is it?

The pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub, native to a region from Iran to northern India.

Main Benefits:

Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, brightening, anti-aging.

More Information:

The color of pomegranate fruits comes from anthocyanins that are antioxidant compounds. Pomegranates contain a number of bioactive phenolic compounds, including resveratrol and ellagitannins, both are extensively studied and were shown to be modulators of oxidative stress and have potential anti-inflammatory, anti-hypertensive and anti-aging properties. Elagitannins also have skin brightening activity and fight hyperpigmentation. The pomegranate seed oil has unusual fatty acid profile and is rich in punicic acid that is being studied for its ability to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and protect against insulin-resistance and diet-induced obesity.
