Did you know that oatmeal is not just for breakfast? Since 2,000 BC, oats have been used in traditional medicine for everything from baths and facials to healing wounds, soothing burns and itches, and reducing inflammation. They actually were used in skincare before becoming a healthy source of food!

Oatmeal possesses a wide spectrum of biologically active compounds, and forms an amazing barrier on the skin. Naturally cleaning, oatmeal removes excess oil and dirt that clogs pores and replaces the undesirables with moisture-delivering beta-glucans and antioxidants such as ferulic acid. In fact, both colloidal oatmeal (or finely ground oats) and cocoa butter are approved by the FDA as a skin protectants* (who knew?!).

For our Salve, we combined colloidal oats with rich, flavorful and delicious-smelling cocoa butter (that has also been used for about 3,000 years on skin!). Add conditioning shea butter and avocado oil, and you get an amazingly effective, safe and truly ancient concoction that can be used on dry knuckles, cuticles, lips, and wherever extra protection and soothing love is needed.

• Oatmeal– soothing, anti-itch and anti-inflammatory super-grain. Rich in antioxidant phenol compounds including ferulic and caffeic acids, moisturizing beta glucans, lipids, minerals and vitamins. Soap-like compounds of oatmeal function as a mild natural cleanser.

• Shea butter –  a must for glowing skin, it is rich in five essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants. Not only a wonderful moisturizer, it is also anti-inflammatory due to its cinnamic acid. Widely used on hair, skin, under eyes, and lips, it was even used for wound care in traditional medicine.

• Cocoa butter – has been used in medicine for about 3,000 years, especially by ancient Aztecs and Mayas. It’s fatty acids help to maintain the skin barrier and protect it from the harmful environment. And, of course it includes a light, delicious scent of cocoa.

• Pomegranate Seed Oil – rich in vitamin C, it also contains punicic acid that has been proven to protect collagen in the skin, accelerating wound healing and reducing the appearance of scars. The anti-inflammatory property of punicic acid has also effectively addressed skincare ailments like eczema and psoriasis.
