Reishi

What is it?

Reishi (Ganoderma) is a fungus  growing at the base and stumps of deciduous trees

Main Benefits:

Anti-oxidant, brightening, anti-hyperpigmentation, anti-photoaging

More Information:

Reishi, also known as Lingzhi, is the ancient “mushroom of immortality”, or “divine mushroom”,  revered for over 2,000 years.

Reishi mushrooms contain diverse phytochemicals, including triterpenes (ganoderic acids), which have a molecular structure similar to that of steroid hormones. They also contains polysaccharides, coumarin, mannitol, and alkaloids. Sterols isolated from the mushroom include ganoderol, ganoderenic acid, ganoderiol, ganodermanontriol, lucidadiol, and ganodermadiol. Traditionally, polysaccharides and ganoderic acids have been reported as the major functional metabolites of Ganoderma possessing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions. They have been used in promoting skin wound healing and mitigating postburn infection. Reishi extracts have also been used in skin care, because of their protective roles in skin photoaging and skin whitening properties.

Ganoderma polysaccharides are capable of protecting skin against UVB-induced damage and skin pigmentation (melanogenesis). They were shown to greatly relieve erythema reaction caused by high-dosage UVB irradiation.

Anti-inflammatory effect of Ganoderma in atopic dermatitis and cutaneous sarcoidosis have also been shown.
